Hi, I’m Chaffee-Thanh Nguyen or just Chaffee to most who know me.
Following most conventions, “about me” pages are written in third person, which I guess is supposed to make the website owner look and sound really smart.
Think of someone who goes around talking to everyone in the third person instead of just who they are. What image does that bring to mind?
First thought that popped into my mind is “pompous”. Then other words like, insecure, conceited, unrelatable, and distant pop into mind.
So instead of that, I’m going to write this page as if I’m talking to an old friend.
Which, one day, maybe we’ll become just that.
Anyway, I’m currently in my mid-40’s and I live in the Chicagoland area (which if you are familiar with Chicago, you know it’s quite large and spread out) with my wife and two kids. I can go on and tell you about all my hobbies and stuff and it’s my guess that’s not what you’re really here for.
Instead, you’re probably wondering, “Is this guy someone who I should be working with?”
For most people, I would answer NO.
Here’s why:
First, I cannot help you get rich quick.
A lot of people think that they can just start a business and the money will come rolling in.
I work with a lot of real estate investors who watch all these fix and flip shows on the tele and think they can go out and make a million bucks in 90 days.
O.k. Maybe not a million bucks and they think at least making $50,000 – $100,000 is REALLY easy.
I mean, they do it on TV in only 1 hour right?
Think about it though, most people pay an average of about $35,000 per year for 4 years to go to college to learn how to do something. Then, they take 2 – 3 years learning ON the job before they understand how to do something. In total, it takes them about 6 or 7 years to get the privilege of working a $50,000 per year job. So what makes you think you can make $50,000 in 90 days with little or no training in real estate?
Can it be done? Yes.
Has it been done? Yes.
Is it the normal? No.
Do you ever read the fine print in all those late night infomercials?
“Results are NOT typical.”
Hey listen, I’ve started multiple businesses and made a lot money. I’ve also made some mistakes and lost a lot of money. The key is learning from your mistakes and making even more money. And even with help, it takes a lot of time, effort, frustration, and perseverance to make it.
And it still takes work to continue to make money and keep it all-running.
So if you’re not prepared to commit about 10x the time and effort you think it will take to get to where you want to go, then I’m not your guy.
Secondly, if you think you “know it” and just need some help, then what I tell you to do won’t matter.
Primarily because you probably won’t listen to me.
Sure, you might think you will. You’ll even tell me you will. You just won’t.
How do I know this?
Because I’ve coached people across the country and around the world. And every time someone “knows it”, there’s nothing I can do to help them.
Three of the most dangerous words in the English vocabulary are, “I know that”. Once you start saying that, you close yourself off to anything else.
A mind is like a parachute; it must be open to work.
And like a guy leading a horse to water, I cannot make you drink it. I can only show you how to get there. You still have to put in the time and effort to get there and then you’ve got to drink it.
Seriously though, if you already, “know it”, then why aren’t you where you want to be?

As Bruce Lee once said, “Empty your cup so that it may be filled.”
When the student is ready, the teach will appear.

Third, if you’re looking for “The Easy Way” to do things, I don’t want to help you.
Actually, I’ll do one better. I’ll tell you the Easy Way.
Here it is ready?
Go get a bunch of money; hire a bunch of people to do whatever it is you want to do; and hope that it works. And if you run out of money, go get a bunch more. Easy right?
I mean, it takes money to make money right?
Wrong.
You know what it takes?
It takes HARD WORK.
Yes, forget what everyone else told you.
Don’t get caught on that “Work smarter, not harder” saying.
Truth is that you should work smarter AND work harder until you get to where you want to go.
There are no shortcuts to success. There are tools and techniques you can use to help you get there.
And I CAN help you implement some strategies to help.
I just don’t want to.
What?!?
Well I’ll tell you and I want you to fully understand this.
I can help you. I just don’t want to.
Because when you ask me, “What’s the easiest way”, what you’re really saying is, “I’m not fully invested in the long term success of my own business.” And this means that you are not fully invested in the long term success of your customers.
What you are essentially saying is, “I don’t want to work.”
Look, building a business, getting into the right mindset for a successful life, living a life of your dreams full of gratitude and rewards is HARD WORK.
Yes! Once you get to where you want to be it can be even greater than you ever imagined.
And it takes HARD WORK to create, build, and grow.
And it takes HARD WORK to maintain.

How Do I Know If Your Stuff Is Any Good?
Well, the best way to tell is to look at all the free stuff I have out there. It’s a reflection of well, who I am and everything I do.
If you like the free stuff, you’ll probably like everything else.
If you don’t, you won’t.
But I guess if you knew a little bit more about me, it might help you to understand my materials more. That’s probably why you’re on this page in the first place.
So let’s start way back when by saying that I’m a refugee.
My family came to the United States with nothing except the clothes on their backs.
We didn’t know the language;
We didn’t have any money;
We didn’t have a home; food; anything;
So we were dependent upon the kindness of others who gave us what we needed.
Remember that giving thing?
A group of families belonging to a church in St. Louis ended up sponsoring us.
We lived in the basement of one of those families – The Baggots for 6 months.
These families gave us the basic necessities of life – food, clothing, and shelter – and showed us how to acclimate to a new country. They found us an apartment to live in. They found my father a job to work at. And they gave us a sense of belonging.
I’m ever grateful for those families who taught me the power of giving and kindness and I make it a point in my life to pay it forward.
With little to no education, my father got a job doing manual labor.
My mother got a part time job at the church while raising 4 kids.
Needless to say, we lived a meager lifestyle.
Growing up, the desire for more grew within me.
I could see how we lived and see how my friends and others lived and I knew there was more for me than just manual labor.
My father insisted that I go to school, get good grades, and get a good job.
Does that sound familiar to anyone?
And so I did.
I got good grades; graduated as an Engineer at the University of Illinois; got a good job.
And life was good right?
Well yes! Life is always good.
And I still wanted more, needed more.
So in 2002, I started my first official business as a real estate investor.
And remember that story about people wanting to make a lot of money without putting in the effort?
Well I gave that a shot and guess what happened?
I took a 4 day Real estate investing Bootcamp and thought I could conquer the world and make millions.
I got my @$$ wiped on my first deal though.
Boy did I make some mistakes there.
Mostly because I trusted a contractor who sweet talked me into working with him and then ended up scamming me and several others. Hey, it’s my fault though. I didn’t have the experience and didn’t use the proper paperwork, and most importantly, I didn’t put in the effort to learn more, do more, and oversee this guy more.
I was looking for the easy way out and I trusted the wrong guy to make it happen for me. Had I looked into him, I might not have worked with him. Had I put in more effort to oversee his work, I wouldn’t have been scammed as much.
We call this the school of hard knocks.
With the $100,000 I lost on that deal, I could have easily spent on training and education to learn thing the right way and still come out ahead… yeah, $100,000 loss on my first deal. Ouch!
Regardless, from there, I paid for more education; got myself a coach; and went on to do more deals.
After a few years, my deals got bigger and more complex. Sure, I still made mistakes and lost money, and I made a lot more than I lost. I also learned a lot more. And I paid a lot of money for coaches and mentors to help me along the way.
This all led me to find my true calling, my true passion – coaching.
You see, I saw the amazing effect coaching had on my life and my businesses, so I decided to learn more about becoming an actual coach.
I then began a paid internship with a national speaker to learn how to coach. And when I say paid internship I mean I paid him a LOT of money for the honor of working for him for 2 years for basically nothing.
It’s the kind of training that you can’t get in a classroom, so it was well worth it.
After a couple years of training and over 2 years of in-the-field, on-the-job, real-life experience of how to be a coach, I started my own coaching business in 2008.
Since then, I’ve worked with people in three different countries and across the US. I’ve coached thousands of people and worked closely with a handful of high net worth individuals and I’ve loved every minute of it.
Today, I continue to speak, travel, coach, and help people all over the world online and in person.
